Critics generally applauded the film as well as the performances of the entire ensemble, which included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The movie also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). In the following year when he directed his debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the decline and rise of a 1960s music group. Hanks also played the role of a music producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine called his performance "charming", and most experts agreed that Hanks performance earned him a place in the top romantic comedy stars of his generation.
